Past ISHA President, Thomas G. Sampson M.D.

Dr. Sampson was a founding member, and the third president of ISHA who is among those involved in the earliest development of hip arthroscopy. He, along with his associate James M. Glick MD developed the lateral approach to hip arthroscopy, devices for hip distraction, and some of the earliest instrumentation, portals and procedures used for hip arthroscopy. Later on he has developed advanced techniques, and in the year 2000 pioneered the eventual migration of hip preservation and its transition from open surgical dislocation to its treatment using hip arthroscopic methods. His latest work involves preservation of nearly all cartilage and labrum, no matter what the abnormal morphology or injury pattern presents, and the treatment of acetabular labro-chondral delamination (FAACD) using a fracture response technique.
